FAQS ABOUT
CHILD THERAPY
HOW DOES CHILD THERAPY WORK?
As a parent or caretaker, you know what your child needs. We collaborate with you to achieve your goals and meet those needs. Children do their best with consistent therapy sessions, with the parent or caretaker supporting them outside of the session. Children, being too young to achieve their therapy goals on their own, excel when you support them to use their new counselling tools and resources.
HOW IS CHILD THERAPY DIFFERENT THAN ADULT THERAPY?
Younger children communicate and heal through play. Play therapy is a great way for kids to address concerns and achieve goals that they cannot articulate or fully understand. The key with play-based therapies is to trust the process! The proof is in the pudding. Children are often unable to relay to parents what they worked on or learned through play therapy. We welcome your questions; we are always happy to explain the process that your child may not have the language for. Play therapy is a lot like hiding the vegetables in the pasta sauce. Your child does not know about the benefit to health, but the chef does and can explain all the ingredients!
HOW WILL WE KNOW THAT IT’S … WORKING?
You will know that your child's therapy is successful by witnessing the changes in their behaviour. Your child may not be able to relay the lessons but you will see them interact with the world differently: practicing greater compassion, kindness, patience and sharing or other such goal. Children benefiting from therapy is a wonderful and beautiful experience when you begin to see your child heal and their world become more regulated and kind. Your child's therapist cannot wait to see the progress unfold and help you as the parent along the way!
